Let’s Talk about the Moon

Even history cannot deny the mystical role the moon plays on us. It has its own energy and speaks a strange language that many don’t understand. Earth’s moon is our only natural satellite. It has guided timekeepers for thousands of years. The Moon is said to be 4.5 billion years old. On average the Moon moves at 2,288 miles per hour around, about 250,000 miles away from Earth. As the Moon orbits around the Earth once per month, the angles between the Earth, Moon & Sun change; we see this as the cycle of the Moon’s phases. As the month progresses, each phase of the moon delivers a different message. These phases represent the cycles we live in life. We begin new journeys and keep going moving forward. We then find our strength and learn how to let go.

Here are the main phases of the moon: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter, and waning crescent. Each phase occurs unique energies and spiritual meanings. The more attuned we are to these phases and how they affect us, the better we can harness the different energies, rather than wasting more energy fighting against them.

New Moon

A new moon is when the sun and the moon are on the same side of the Earth, it’s the first lunar phase. the Sun is shining on the ‘dark side of the moon’, the side of the moon we never see. As a new moon represents the start of a new lunar cycle, it symbolizes new beginnings. People use the energy of a new moon to achieve their goals. New moon is the perfect time to meditate, journal, organize, and plan your next move. You should be using this time for an intense reboot, mentally throw all unwanted thoughts and excess junk into the trash. The new moon is symbolic of the second chance you are given over and over again. 

Natal New Moon

During the New Moon phase, both the Sun and Moon are lined up perfectly, which means your Sun sign is the same as your Moon sign. In other words, your mind and your heart are in perfect harmony. You don’t let inner conflict trouble you too much. You are very in tune with what you want. You quickly know what you want, and go after it. Your drive has a lot of emotional power behind it. You are a force to be reckoned with, can come across as having a strong sense of self. Waxing Crescent

A waxing crescent moon is when the Moon looks like crescent and the crescent increases one day to the next.  During a waxing crescent, we can see only a small section on the right that is shaped like a crescent. The waxing crescent phase is the moon's first step toward fullness. The waxing crescent moon is a call to action. This is a great time to work toward the goals that are right in front of you. Things don’t always work out the way we planned them to, and this phase of the moon will help you realize what you need to reevaluate, give up, or change direction on. Don’t resist the feeling of change during this moon.

Natal Waxing Crescent

If you’re born under the waxing crescent moon phase, you’re likely born with a strong sense of morality, and a stubborn streak. Often found tied to the past. You’re known for being interested, and creative. You are someone who straddles between appreciating tradition and progressiveness. You have strength that many will find themselves envious of. You'll have the follow through that many lack, and a determination to do great things.

The moon reaches the first quarter a week after the new moon. at that point, the moon is one-quarter of the way through its monthly cycle of phases. Exactly half the moon is illuminated and half is dark. The seed is now presenting a root and plant structure on its way to growing and moving forward. This symbolizes a period of strength, determination, concentration, decision-making or re-evaluation, and commitment to action. The best way to handle this moon is to be flexible. Keep the intention you set during the last new moon in your mind the entire time. Turn around any emotional energy into creative passion so that you can get things done and finish goals.

Maybe you need to change course. Don’t resist the feeling of change during this moon.

As the moon appears to be getting smaller, it is a good time to focus on getting rid of bad habits, stresses or negative thinking. Giving back is a big theme during this time.
